Tomorrowland Foundation Opens First Music & Arts School in South Africa
New creative hub in Langrug gives children access to music, art and opportunity
The Tomorrowland Foundation has opened a new Music & Arts School in South Africa. It officially launched on April 29, 2026, in the Langrug community near Franschhoek. This is the Foundation’s fourth school worldwide and its first one in Africa.
The school was created together with the Langrug Community Centre. It gives children and teenagers a safe place where they can learn music, dance, and art. It is not just about learning skills. It is also about helping them feel confident and believe in themselves.
Langrug is home to many people, but life there is not always easy. There are problems like poverty and limited job opportunities. Even so, the community is strong, and many young people have talent and big dreams.
The Langrug Community Centre has been helping people since 2012. It started as a small soup kitchen. Today, it offers food programs, education, and support for families. This new school is the next step in helping young people grow.
The building is modern and made for learning. It has two floors, classrooms, and an open space outside. Each room is designed for a different activity like music, dance, or art. Children can try new things and discover what they enjoy.
Every afternoon, children aged 6 to 16 can join after-school programs. They will learn, create, and spend time in a positive environment. The goal is to help them grow, both creatively and personally.
In the future, the school plans to welcome up to 600 children. Teachers and helpers will also be trained from inside the community. This means the project can continue to grow and stay connected to local people.
The centre is led by a dedicated team. Janet Johnson, the founder, continues to guide the project. Support also comes from Kathleen Aerts and Steven van Hoof, who help bring attention and resources to the community.
The Tomorrowland Foundation started in 2016. Its goal is simple: help children express themselves through music and art. With this new school, that mission continues to grow.
For the children in Langrug, this place is more than a school. It is a safe space where they can be creative, feel supported, and dream about a better future.
